The VSG ITODs
Introduction
The Vigilance Starfighter Group Interactive Tour of Duty (VSG ITOD) consists of a series of custom-made, single player missions. Each series of missions, or tour, is usually designed around some sort of storyline, involving each pilot in such things as raiding Imperial assets, defending damaged platforms or capital ships, or attacking bands of pirates. Some pilots choose to further participate by writing mission narratives that tell the events of the mission as seen from the cockpit.
Rules
The following rules are basic guidelines for all fleet-wide ITOD missions, but may be modified for specific missions as deemed necessary by the VSF Command Staff. Failure or inability to follow these rules may result in various actions, which might include disqualification of score(s) and/or further review for possible cheating.
- Missions are to be flown in Single Player mode only.
- Missions labeled ###_b are to be flown with X-wing vs. TIE Fighter using the Balance of Power expansion (XvT:BoP). Soon an RS Ship Patch will be added for use in future missions.
- Missions labeled ###_a are to be flown with X-wing Alliance (XWA). No third party expansions are to be used.
- Missions are to be installed as per the installation section below.
- Missions Settings are to be set as following:
- Difficulty: Player choice unless otherwise instructed.
- Randomize: Off.
- Craft Waves: Default.
- Starfighter Collisions: On.
- Craft Settings (XWA): Default for the first run, but you may use what is available for subsequent runs.
- Missions may be flown and reported on as many times as desired by the individual pilot. The highest score reported will be the only one that is counted towards the official standings.
- Only "Mission Complete" reports will be considered for the Top 10% Bonus Merits. "Mission Failure" reports will be counted for squad and wing totals.
- Your report must have a screenshot of the mission results screen (this can be taken with Alt+o or the PrntScrn key). These are created in the BMP format, and the reporter only accepts files of type JPEG, GIF, and PNG, so you must convert the screenshot with a tool such as IrfanView.
Reporting
Reports are to be submitted using the VSG Mission Reporter.
Installation
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter
- Download the mission (VSG 101b).
- Move or copy the .TIE file to your X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter: Balance of Power TRAIN sub-directory.
- Open your text editor of choice and edit the REBEL.LST file in your TRAIN sub-directory.
- Install the mission by inserting three lines into the file. The following is an example, with explanations of the lines in parentheses.
323 (This is an unique number that identifies the mission. This number cannot already be in use elsewhere in REBEL.LST.)
vsg_101b.tie (This is the filename of the file you downloaded and copied to the TRAIN sub-directory.)
VSG ITOD 1 Mission 1: Battle of Blerthmore (This is the name of the mission as it will appear in the Exercise drop-down menu.) - Run X-wing vs. TIE Fighter. Select your pilot, then Fly Solo. Choose the Exercise button. The name of the mission will appear in the drop-down menu. Select the mission, select settings as instructed above, and fly.
X-Wing Alliance
- Download the mission (VSG 102a).
- Open the zip file and copy the .tie file into your X-Wing Aliance MISSIONS subdirectory.
- Next make a backup copy of the MISSIONS.LST file.
- Go back to the zip file and copy the provided MISSIONS.LST file into the MISSIONS subdirectory. When it asks you if you want to replace the file, click YES.
- Now copy over the provided *.PLT file from the zip file to the main X-Wing Alliance directory.
- Run X-Wing Alliance with the new pilot provided. Then, go to the briefing room as you would run a normal campaign mission. For subsequent runs, go to the combat simulator and run under the default mission settings.
